Someone suggested on a local TV news website that anyone who has a mentally disturbed person living with them should not have guns in the house. Does this idea have merit?
When Will was young, he was utterly fascinated with lights of all kinds, including campfires and candles. Therefore, we never had candles in the house; ever.

It would have taken a lot more effort and planning on the part of Adam Lanza if his mother had not had high powered weapons where he could get them, and if she hadn’t trained him to shoot them. Apparently, if the news reports were correct, she was preparing to have him committed.
Even without a disturbed person in the house the statistics show that guns in the house increase the probability of tragedy. If people think they should have a weapon in the house they need to keep it secured in a way that others cannot access it. We also banned candles for years and kept the matches hidden and well out of reach. The lack of common sense in some of these situations is astounding.
